Work on our biggest ever development scheme at Stanley Street in Somercotes has ploughed ahead during the year. Construction started on-site in Spring 2023 and now, just over a year later, the first new homes are being completed ready for the first new customers to move in.
The £40m, 16-acre scheme is being built in partnership with Miller Homes and will create 180 new affordable rent and shared ownership homes to help ease the significant affordable housing shortage across Derbyshire. Futures is also contributing £1.5m to support community investment in local schools and recreational facilities as part of the project.
Despite concerns from some locals about risk of contamination from a former waste site nearby, the results of our extensive pre-construction testing have held firm with no unexpected issues during more than a year of construction.
At the time of writing (Summer 2024) the first homes are being completed and some of the shared ownership homes are going on the market. The response from customers has been really positive with great feedback on the size and quality of the homes.
The final homes on this landmark scheme for Futures are due to be completed in 2028.
