Crime and antisocial behaviour (ASB) can devastate people’s lives and harm entire communities. And while Futures isn’t a crime-fighting agency, our ‘on the ground’ presence and role in supporting customers and communities means we have an important part to play in helping tackle it.
This year we’ve joined forces with other local agencies in Operation Fragment, a community-based crime fighting initiative organised by Northamptonshire Police. The project was set up to help address crime and ASB in and around Daventry, but especially on the Southbrook Estate where Futures is one of the major landlords.
As well as directly seeking to address the causes of crime, the project is also looking to address other related issues such as road safety and designing-out crime through estate improvements such as better lighting and sightlines.
Local residents, including Futures customers, are being encouraged to support the project by using a free messaging service – Northamptonshire Talking – to receive regular updates on policing and other community matters.
Operation Fragment has also fed into a wide range of community projects that Futures is involved in around the Southbrook estate, such as environmental improvements and clean-up days. All part of our joined-up plans to invest in the long term future of the area and the lives of local people. And with Police funding for the scheme extended into Summer 2024 and hopefully beyond, the hope is that building on the strong partnerships formed can help to support other areas across the town.
