Turning up the heat

Replacing oil fuelled boilers with more planet friendly measures.

Twenty of our customers’ homes now have air source heat pumps to help make their properties more energy efficient thanks to government funding.

The money came from Wave 2 of the government’s Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (previously known as the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund) and has helped us convert these homes to low-carbon, clean heating as part of our long term journey to net carbon zero.

The 20 homes are all in Daventry, Northamptonshire and were chosen for their low energy performance and oil central heating.

James Dial, Head of Sustainability & Asset Maximisation at Futures said: “Fitting air source heat pumps is an exciting step for us and our customers. A healthy home and environment are essential for our wellbeing, so it’s great that we can take advantage of newer and more sustainable technology.”

The heat pumps work by capturing heat from the outside air, even in cold and freezing weather.

As well as the heat pumps, customers had a mixture of other energy saving measures installed including loft insulation, LED lighting, cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and solar panels. All of these help to get the best performance from the heat pump and make homes more comfortable and affordable to heat.

We’ve installed energy improvement measure in 116 homes this year, including:

  • 38 sets of solar photovoltaic panels.
  • 45 external wall insulation installations.
  • 56 cavity wall insulation installations.

James said: “Hundreds of our homes have received energy upgrades over the last few years. It’s amazing to see the difference we’re making as each home is getting measures that’re best suited to that property.”
